Scott McGill  BIO - Scott McGill

West Coast born and raised, Scott majored in pop voice and jazz at Capilano College in Vancouver, BC. He gained industry attention with the release of two notable independent albums nominated for esteemed music awards: in 1997, the album, First Time won runner-up at the YTV Youth Achievement Awards. In 2000, Check the Hype was nominated Best New Indie Album at the influential West Coast Music Awards. In 2001, Scott was selected for a part in the Global Television reality show, Pop Stars: Boy Meets Girl, filmed in Toronto.

Scott currently fronts three bands: The Circus, Groove Social, and Backstage Whiskey. As well, he is part of a Country/Folk duo with his daughter, Hope King and they can be found playing all over the Cowichan Valley. He also composes and records his own solo projects. He has opened for bands such as Nickleback, Widemouth Mason, and Tower of Power and describes his work as “pop folk soul.”

Currently, Scott teaches guitar, mandolin, banjo, drums, bass, and pop voice at Minstrels Conservatory of Music in Cobble Hill. Scott’s teaching philosophy encourages students to find their own voice through music.

And lastly, Scott is also on the music faculty at Brentwood College in Mill Bay. There he has been teaching for the last nine years, instructing students in the classroom teaching the highly popular “Rock Band” programs. He also teaches music composition and the new guitar ensemble program, which is a mixture of an acoustic rock band in a guitar orchestral setting.

Serious Coffee’s Note: We were thrilled to have both Scott and Hope perform at our wrap-up party. Scott's ability to perform solo or to provide melodic harmonies that more than compliment Hope's voice and style, have to be experienced. Touting some pretty serious music credentials, not surprisingly, Scott was voted into the top 5 by fans. He accomplished this level of popularity even though he didn't enter until one month after the start of the contest. We are honoured to have such a talented musician participate and strongly encourage you to take in one of his shows. Thanks Scott!
